WE ARE YOUR WHS
INNOVATORS
How did we get here? Sheesh it’s one hell of a story
Origin-wise, our family is from agriculture, specifically cattle farming and horses, in the Great Southern. Surrounding us were predominantly wheat and sheep farms.
In 2019, I was a Personal Trainer in Perth when I suffered a life-changing entanglement injury. My leg was hanging on by a 20-cent piece size attachment, an open compound fracture, and I underwent titanium rod placement from knee to ankle, muscle graft, and multiple skin grafts. Although it wasn't a workplace incident, it changed my view of hazard and risk perception. While in hospital, a nurse told me I would need to seek a new career, and I ended up in Primary Education. I won't lie, I didn't love it, but I completed my degree anyway.
When I completed my course in 2011, 250 graduates didn't get jobs because the teaching system was too full. I frantically applied for any job and patiently waited in my small country town for any kind of work. I was hired by Orica Mining, the world's largest supplier of explosives, on my very first day of my new mining job. I was also offered a teaching job, but I turned it down and have never looked back, finding passion in heavy industry and its people.
In 2017, after completing my Graduate Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety, I started Fostering Safety to gain my own experience with small local businesses in my area. Since then, it has always been ticking along in the background, especially serving as an outlet for me as a stay-at-home Mum to keep my skills sharp.
In 2022, our family made the progressive decision to undertake a stereotypical household role swap. I returned to work full-time, and my husband became our stay-at-home Dad. This has been a significant risk that has ultimately paid off in terms of work-life balance with a young family.
Moving forward, we are excited about the future of Fostering Safety and its ability to meet any requirements your business may have while remaining flexible in our approach to engagement.
